Lease a new Audi Q6 E-Tron – Sneak Preview

As of July 23, the official line from Audi is that they are getting close to being ready to unveil the production model of the Audi Q6 E-Tron.  However here is a sneak preview of what we know already from the Q6 E-Tron prototype.

The new model which we’ve been assured will be released before Christmas 2023 is in Audi’s own words “Poised to revolutionise the automotive industries benchmark in terms for performance, range, and charging, and will also feature ground-breaking lighting technology”

Customisable Q6 E-Tron Lights?

Ok we are not sure about this one.  Customised light patterns?  We’ve all seen the rear of modern Audi and VW cars that have indicators in a mesmerising pattern, but how are they planning to advance on that?  So, with the new Q6 E-tron, a 360- segment OLED panel, which update every ten milliseconds using a clever algorithm, will enable users to select their own lighting pattern from as many as eight unique light signatures by using the MMI and myAudi mobile app.

The intention here makes it sound like a gimmick, but actually there is more to it than that.  As an advancement in safety, the Q6 E-tron will also introduce the communication light.  The digital OLED rear lights on the Q6 E-Tron will be able to communicate critical road scenarios to road users behind you, by displaying warning signals of potential hazards that may lie ahead.  There is also an “exit warning” feature, which has been expanded on to include cyclists and vehicle approaching from behind to highlight to those road users to exercise caution.

The Audi Q6 e-tron marks the first time in a production model that we are designing both the shape of the lights and their entire movement’. explains César Muntada, Head of Lighting Design. ‘Thanks to a perfect symbiosis between lighting design and the new technology, the new Audi Q6 e-tron lights look more vibrant and intelligent than ever before.”

What else do we know about the Audi Q6 E-Tron?

Well, it has been four years since the launch of the original Audi E-Tron, so we expect much of that existing technology and production value to remain the same, with some unannounced enhancements.

We know that is will continue with the current line of Audi Q vehicle body shapes, in that it will be available as both an Estate and a Sportback.

However, the Q6 E-Tron will standalone, being the first of Audi’s new cars to be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) technology platform, which features an 800 -volt electrical system, powerful and efficient electric motors, an innovative battery and charging management system, as well as newly developed vehicle electronics architecture throughout.

Audi’s new PPE platform signals their next big step into electric cars and digitalisation of the Audi model range, and further signals their intent to commit to electric mobility and vehicle sustainability.  Audi’s headquarters in Inglostadt will have its own in-house full electric battery assembly facility.

What has Audi been up to behind the scenes with the Q6 E-Tron?

It’s actually been out in Northern Europe, undergoing rigorous cold weather tests.  This is part of the process Audi go through before they release a new car for general sale, to see how it fairs when put into challenging climates and scenarios.  We are all keen to know how much the battery drains with the heater, heated seats and heated steering wheel on full blast!
